This is one of my favourite bands, featuring one of my favourite singer/songwriters, Maynard James Keenan...who also fronts Tool and A Perfect Circle... I am dedicating it to to Vivlite, hope it feels like a big warm cuddle.. www.youtube.com/watch?v=qtZJiQSmJ9g

What a nice surprise! Good talk on other musicians on this thread. And I see that my fellow Dutchies are doing well here. In order to celebrate that fact, here is one of my favorites, not from Holland, but very close (Belgium). Stromae! I absolutely LOVE this song. And I love the way in which the original arrangement is reworked in the second vid to go with a whole orchestra. The absolute delight in singing and making music always makes me smile. nic42 I love that song! Great videos, I hadn't seen them before. ivaalambert - I like Nightwish too - but I guess I'm a little out of touch, cause I don't know any of their newer stuff - I'm still into "Walking in the Air", "Wanderlust" and that earlier stuff - with their 1st singer, I guess? See, I don't even know which singer sang on which album... I don't know if I have a favourite music/musician. OK, I'm partial to anything Adam-sung, , but other than that, I mean. I listen to a really wide variety of stuff and I like some bits and pieces of almost every genre. So, I'll just post my two latest "discoveries": 1. Loreena McKennitt - I found this Canadian artist a few months ago - she's really talented: sings, composes, plays the harp, I don't know what else... She's not new or anything, I just never knew about her until I just stumbled upon her rendition of "Tango to Evora", which is a song I love, as well. This song of hers in particular is really interesting - I like the lyrics so much.... www.youtube.com/watch?v=mCjxZHGHL4Y2. Marlon Roudette - I think he's from Trinidad or something like that - there's definitely a feel of that in this song - it's just a great summer jam, and again, I like the lyrics (yes, lyrics are really important to me liking a song ) www.youtube.com/watch?v=BLRgaU9uUnA

Is there something in the water? Keep them coming! Stromae I know, because he sings in French and so translates well over here....they have been making a bit of a fuss about him here.

Because I do want to link some videos after writing about my tagline here adamtopia.com/post/678131, but don't want to spam the daily thread, here are two songs about labels and (not) fitting in. Stromae - Batard (English translation and commentary) genius.com/3925067Walk off the Earth - Little boxes

www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ry4cEALzIVcPanda asked me to talk a bit about Bieber's vocals on this performance. Hmmmmm. What can I say? I am sure you hear what I hear, right? The opening verse at the piano is very breathy with absolutely no resonance or depth of tone. It is also wobbly in terms of pitch. Not shockingly off, but tentative and unsupported because of his breathy production. When he gets into the dance section he gets a bit more tone to his voice, but still has no warmth, no texture, no shading, no vibrato. Nothing yummy. And very little range. Supremely easy to sing the few notes he does, but I think that boys in a high school show choir would have more range, more tone, more resonance and more support than I hear on this number. Put it this way: if I was a high school choir director, I wouldn't choose him to sing a solo line in a number for a concert. I actually wouldn't even choose him for my show choir at all, unless I was desperate for boys. Too harsh? What am I missing?

Too harsh? What am I missing? Would love to hear your analysis of this performance as well, cassie! I didn't expect him to sound mostly in tune and even go up an octave at 2:15.

Cassie, I totally agree with you re. JB's performance on The Voice tonight. I was shocked at how boringly bad it was. After 30 seconds I felt like I kinda felt like this:

You know what, I can't even with this whole Justin Bieber thing... To get that bad taste out of your mouth ears, you might want to listen to some actual good singing and actual good songs I love Christian Borle. He is a Broadway star, a great actor, but also a really good singer. I didn't want to compare him to Justin Bieber, or to Adam Lambert for that matter, but I enjoy his voice, he's got a marvellous technique and I've been singing Vienna recently non-stop so my mind has been going to Christian Borle's rendition of that song in the TV show Smash: www.youtube.com/watch?v=qCKhbZw9qSMI also love this song and Christian's voice is perfect for it - he is so delicate when he needs to be and so powerful when the song requires. I really feel like he tells the story perfectly: www.youtube.com/watch?v=HPvtz3Sc6jE
