As it's as quiet as quiet can be round here..... Just went back to have a proper look at the pics of Adam's house. Sorry can't bring link here. I had a quick look the other day and assumed that the huge island unit in the centre of the kitchen was the same one from two different angles, in the two kitchen pics. But on closer look, these are two different island units mirroring each other and each 'half' of the kitchen is complete in itself, both with huge cooking ranges and oversized fridge/freezers etc. Pretty unusual ( to me) - wonder if previous owner was professional cook. Hope Adam gets some time to do more than just scramble eggs there! Hey Sophie -- I think I can answer your question on this one--and you are pretty amazing for noticing this because I certainly didn't! The previous owner was most like an Orthodox Jewish person who kept a Kosher kitchen. In Judaism, those who keep Kosher need to separate the categories "meat" and "dairy" and will often have 2 sets of dishes, 2 areas for cooking, etc. I house-sat once for a woman who kept Kosher and agreed to do so in her home, which was really interesting. She had only one kitchen but had dual sinks, 2 separate counter areas and a large refrigerator/freezer divided into 2 sections. According to the purity laws, mixing items that are meat and dairy is forbidden. There are a number of items that are considered parve--they are in the middle (like vegetables) and can go with either meat or dairy. I have used the analogy that if you are Orthodox you will never eat a cheeseburger before with people to explain how these two items are separated. I have had a number of Jewish friends and colleagues over the years, and I respect those who follow this practice because it takes commitment to be faithful to eating this way. Islam has similar practices for certain foods as well--especially in how meat is cut and prepared. I am Christian, so if I got any of this wrong, someone can certainly correct me! Adam is of Jewish heritage but not observant in any way, so I would imagine that the kitchen in his new home may be reconfigured into a more standard format--but who knows? I'd take that kitchen in a heartbeat!

I'm thinking a lot about the folks near the fires in San Diego--mostly because my parents and sister are on their way to that area for the annual week at Lawrence Welk Resort near Escondido. I called my parents yesterday to ask them if they were still going, and my mom said that they were. I hope everyone down there is safe! Fires in Southern California can move really fast, especially when the Santa Ana winds are blowing. By the way, the fires are not far from the San Diego Wild Animal Park, which is part of the Zoological Society which also runs the San Diego zoo. It is a huge place which is really lovely to visit, and I remember that once before when there were fires they were on the verge of having to evacuate the animals. This would have been really difficult as many of them roam free. I hope that doesn't happen this time.
Here's my relevance to Adam--my parents lived in North County in San Diego near Poway for 11 years--basically just across the freeway from where Adam grew up. Whenever I would visit we would literally drive by Mt. Carmel high school to get to the shopping plaza with a number of stores we went to! I always imagine that we actually saw him when he was younger at a restaurant or something...could have happened!

Here's my Queen story:
I never got to see Queen live, but in high school my older sister and her boyfriend saw them in concert twice. Her boyfriend was a guitar player and idolized Brian May, so they actually went to the airport to try and see if they could meet the band when they were in Portland (this was in 1977 or 8). They actually met the band and my sister's boyfriend got to talk guitars with Brian May for a little bit--he was in nirvana for weeks! My sister was, too. She always said what an amazing band they were, and it was truly sad that I never got to see them in concert because I always wanted to. I used to borrow my sister's Night at the Opera album and play it in the afternoons when she wasn't home and sing along. I memorized the whole thing, and I can still sing Bohemian Rhapsody--and I do the middle section, too! Since I am a soprano, I always do Roger's high parts in the middle.
I became a true Queen fan and still have most of their albums. I remember watching the Live Aid concert on TV and was blown away by Queen--and still was mad I had never seen them live. Over the years, I have listened to their music and lots of other music, but I have always longed to see Queen in person. I never really was a fan girl before Adam, so the fact that he is singing with Queen is a real dream come true for me! I get to cross off a major item on my bucket list when I see Queen in Vancouver, and I get to see Adam (which is always a total treat!). I'm so grateful that Queen is going to hit the road one more time, and I am thrilled that they are bringing along such a talented frontman (although I am still sad I never saw Freddie--my sister says he was really amazing).
I look forward to seeing everyone in Vancouver that will be going--and I also look forward to being overcome by the music of Queen and the voice of Adam! Yay!

Okay, I just ordered the Spirit Wolf phone cover, even though I couldn't really afford it. I couldn't resist--it was so cool! I'll take a picture and post it when it arrives. Woot!

Maynard --
Welcome! I'm sorry you are going through such a sucky time right now, but I tell you that this place has gotten me through more than one difficult time--you are definitely in the right place! Keep breathing and don't let the turkey get you down... gobble.

I am loving that new Lipton tea ad! I love tea and even when I was in high school I would buy loose tea and make it by the pot. I am starting to see more tea shops here in Seattle, which I love. I do drink some coffee, but definitely love tea more--hot or iced. I almost exclusively use my Keurig for hot and iced tea--it's not perfect but great for a fast cup.
I don't know why it always warms my heart to see Adam holding a cup of tea during concerts and also at other times. The Throat Coat tea he drinks is great stuff, by the way, even if it tastes a little odd (slippery elm bark).

Aw, we get sappy Linda tonight:)) Though I love me some saucy Linda, she's my favourite:))) But sappy Linda is also kind of cute:))) HAHAHA!!! I've met Linda and sappy is not a word I would use to describe her--however, I would bet she is secretly sappy from time to time! Linda is an extremely cool individual, by the way (and knows the best places to eat in Austin--I am coming back for more tacos!). Lisa
